Since ancient times, the valley of Esclans was famous for its grapes, which the wealthy Roman citizens appreciated. Domaine du Jas d'Esclans is mentioned in the archives as early as the 13th century.

The domain's activities have evolved over the centuries. At first there were only sheep fields and the name Jas refers to the summer pastures of the sheep. Silk culture was also important and the mulberries used to feed the silkworms still bear witness to this. Viticulture is the only activity these days.

The vineyard, with an average age of For over thirty years, it has been planted on red clay soil, sandstone and slate from the Permian era, which gives the wine of JAS D'ESCLANS intensity, elegance and character. The permeable, stony soil, poor in humus and well drained, is particularly suitable for producing quality wines. In addition, the estate benefits from its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea (12 km, the sea can be seen from the property) and from the mistral wind muffled by the nearby hills. Constant exposure to regular sunlight ensures optimal ripeness of grapes.

The domain has always prioritized traditional cultivation methods and has benefited from Ecocert's organic certification since 1990. The winery is one of 18 wineries from Provence that may bear the title 'Cru Classé'.
