Vintage Morgadio da Calçada 2011 shows a very intense deep red color. In the scent it has clear notes of wild and dark fruit, while the wine is velvety on the palate and contrasts beautifully with a finish in which the tannins are wonderfully rustic. The near-perfect acidity of the 2011 vintage, combined with great concentration, makes this Vintage 2011 a great and impressive wine that will gain a lot with time on the bottle. Perfect to combine with Queijo da Serra, Stilton or other blue cheeses and with egg-based desserts as a sponge cake.
2011 was a year with relatively little rainfall in winter and a surprising bloom in March, earlier than normal. In June, the extreme heat suddenly appeared, burning some outliers, especially in earlier varieties such as Tinta Barroca. Although July and August were cool months with some rainfall, temperatures in September were high and the harvest had to be accelerated to avoid overripe grapes. The Morgadio da Calçada Vintage 2011 has completely entered stone mills on foot. As usual in a Vintage of this quality, the stems are 100% included in the winemaking. Matured for 2 years in large wooden barrels and Port barrels.
