The 2017 vintage is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (80%), which allows to express the terroir, character and charm of our beautiful Cabernets. The wine has a deep, bright ruby red color. The bouquet has scents of ripe red fruit, violets and herbs. This is complemented by an attractive fresh minerality. On the palate, the onset is tight, clean and long, with its ripe and melted tannins. All in all, this is a wine with a great balance, combining charm, elegance and freshness; it is aromatic, with an aftertaste of considerable strength and presice. This 2017 breaks the shape of vintages ending in "7", as it shows the richness of expression of Pauillac's beautiful terroir, combining balance, refined and ripe fruit.
Among the wines of Pauillac, Grand-Puy-Lacoste is considered "a great classic", able to match its consistent character to the spirit of each vintage. Wines are the expression of their terroir, their climate and their grapes, but they also bear the signature of the winemakers. So while showing the utmost respect for the gifts of nature, François-Xavier Borie will proudly refer to the "signature" of Grand-Puy-Lacoste, which is clearly visible in vertical tastings.
The wines have a beautiful, deep color, the aromas are very pure and complex, subtle and refined. Depending on the harvest year, the first impression may be ripe fruit or flowers, often toasted notes, spices and vanilla. Over time it develops a remarkable in a full and rich character. On the palate, the wine stands out for its elegant individuality from the first impression to the last moments of a finish that offers constantly and subtly changing pleasure. The flavors support and enhance the aromatic sensations, especially with a remarkably wide range of fruits, cassis will develop with aging.
The wines are well structured, with a powerful tannic structure that never loses its silky softness. The fourth dimension of Grand-Puy-Lacoste is time. A naturally long-aged wine, it takes between eight and ten years to reveal its full potential, bringing together strength and harmony. Each vintage develops fully after a period that matches its profile. "Patience is rewarded with complex aromas of dried fruit, Havana tobacco and cedarwood, soft tannins and an exceptionally long aromatic finish" Markus del Monego, the world's best sommelier in 1998.
