Denis Jamain's grandfather planted the first Sauvignon Blanc vine in his 2ha vineyard in 1935. At that time, the vineyards in Reuilly had been destroyed by Phylloxera and were not very popular. Still, the man believed in Reuilly's terroir. He was absolutely right! This Rosé 'Les Chênes' is a special and limited edition by winemaker Denis Jamain and an ode to his grandfather.
It is a very aromatic wine, which we are used to from the Pinot Gris grape. It is a rich wine that is well structured. It immediately reminds us of summer with intense aromas of ripe pear, passion fruit and a hint of vanilla. It is soft and creamy on the palate, the fruit almost candy-like while remaining fresh. Harmonious, complex in combination with good concentration. The texture of the vines, which are 40 years old, gives a lot of character to the wine.
The grapes come from the flat stone plots in the middle of the hills. The terroir consists of clay and limestone containing shellfish fossils from the Loire river. The grapes are picked by hand after which they undergo malolactic fermentation during the fermentation. Then the wine matures for 1 year in French oak barrels, of which 25% new, 25% 1year, 25% 2year and 25% 3year old 100 liter barrels.
Storage potential: 5 to 10 years.
