This citrus yellow Sancerre has a ripe concentrated taste of lemon and grapefruit, perfectly combined with aromas of stewed stone fruits and limestones. This is a full, rich and very complex but also pure, refreshing and finesse-full Sancerre. It has a very long fruit, intense, almost luscious yet elegant aftertaste with lemon flavors. There is a maturity here that gives this Sancerre 'Chambrates' its elegance and noble complexity. An impressive Sancerre indeed. The 'Chambrates' of Domaine Vacheron come from a plateau above the 'Le Paradis' area and are cultivated on limestone and red clay soils. This wine is fermented and aged for 12 months in large French oak barrels.
The Vacheron vineyards are all close to the village of Sancerre itself and have been family owned for 9 generations. Today this domain is run by two cousins, the Messieurs Vacheron. Both have sons who study winegrowing to continue the family tradition. The vineyards cover 34 hectares with two main types of soil; "flint" and "caillotte" or chalk.
Organic viticulture has been a family goal for a number of years; from 2003 the entire estate was certified organic. The following year, the winery was completely converted to biodynamic farming - to be sure, you won't find more terroir-driven Sancerre in the appellation anywhere else. Jean-Dominique and Jean-Laurent Vacheron skillfully lead the domain to increasingly elevated vineyard heights. The wines speak for themselves - always consistent, the quality of Vacheron Sancerre remains amazing.
